In this video we're going to show you how to service the taillights on this 2002 Mercury Sable, same as a 2000-2003. Only tool you'll need is an 11 millimeter wrench.

To service a taillight, and you can see actually this one's cracked and a lot of states won't even let something like that go, but you want to come back here and most likely you're going to find a little thumb screw here. Mine's actually missing but you want to remove that and then you can take this piece here actually and pull it up, pry and pull up, and then you'll find four bolts back here: one, two there and then there's another two right over there.

What I found is once you loosen these up a couple of turns you should be able to just use your fingers and pull them off the rest of the way.
I'm just speeding it up here. As you can see, like I said, they come off in a few turns by the wrench and then you can usually get them off by your fingers. Make sure you remove all four. Once you've gotten those all out, right down here is your connector. You'll pull out on a little tab and then pull it up and out and then up here just force this little rubber plug through. Pull your light out, pull the connector out, if you're just going to change bulbs, twist counterclockwise, pull out the bulbs, pull from the socket, push back in, clockwise will lock, same with this one here.

New light from 1A Auto, seats all going to be the same. You do need to change your harness over, so you just turn those counterclockwise. Pull this little clip out, pull up from there, pull the clip off of the new one, install that on there, put the clip back on. Make sure the little rubber gaskets are on your connectors and you're ready to install. Obviously, it installs the same way. Put your connection through. You push your plug into place, push your light into place and bring your connector over, plug it back in, and then start your nuts on.

I'm going to fast forward through this. You put all the nuts on by hand first and then when you tighten them you don't want to tighten them incredibly tight. Once you feel that they're seated, probably only like a half of a turn more. You could break the light if you tighten them up too much. Push this all back in and flip your panel back on and put the thumb screw back in here if you have it, and there's our new taillight installed.
