In this video, we show you how to replace the hood support struts on this 2002 Mercury Sable. It's a pretty easy repair. This will happen when your hood won't stay up anymore. You'll especially notice it in colder weather. The only tool you'll need is a flat-blade screwdriver and possibly a mop or something, whatever you might hold it up with, or a person to help you out.
If you're familiar with the old Swiffer mop holding up your hood, then you'll want to perform this repair. You'll want to replace these hood struts. It's pretty easy. You take a flat blade screwdriver. Just a note here: You do need to have your hood supported, because when you take these hood struts off your hood will fall down quickly. So have either a dust mop or an assistant help you out. Use your screwdriver; pry out the clip and pull off the strut. Do the same thing for the top side.
The new strut from 1A Auto goes on the exact same way. Put it on there. You may have to turn the strut just a little bit. Lift up your hood. Put the other one on. Make sure it's locked on there. Once you've replaced the pair, you can take out your dust mop.
