How Do I Tell If I Have a Bad Front Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly

A bad wheel hub or bearing is a common problem in older vehicles. Check out this video to learn how to identify the problem in your own vehicle.

  1. step 1 :Testing the Wheel Hub
    • With the car up off the ground, put one hand behind the bottom of the tire, and one hand on top. Shake the tire back and forth.
    • While shaking the tire, look at the axle boot. If the axle boot is moving up and down, that's a good indicator that your hub is bad.
  2. step 2 :Step 2

I have the car up off the ground. With one hand behind the bottom of the tire, and one hand on top, I can shake the tire back and forth. What you want to look at is the axle boot. You can see it's moving up and down. That's a clear indication that your hub is bad, and not your ball joint or your tire rod. Your hub's bad if you can move that axle up and down.
